A new
addition to the ECHO 4x4 range of
products has arrived! This exciting new
phenomenon dubbed the 'beast' has been
unleashed on the African continent! The
Kavango is now the flagship product of
ECHO 4x4 and is sure to break
boundaries, dissect mountains and leave
all worries behind. The challenge was to
develop and perfect a new kind of
caravan rugged enough to glide over the
worst terrain imaginable, and provide 5
star luxury when a destination was
reached.
|
 |
Ruggedness, dust proofing, water
leakage, doors and shelving fixing,
corrosion, cracks, structural and body
strength as well as off-road and high
speed on-road handling was high on the
priority list of the test cycling and
development agenda.
Hooked behind a 4x4 towing vehicle the
Kavango is definitely the lowest of all
caravans at roof height but with the
ground clearance of a serious off-road
vehicle. |

-
Colour fragmented monocoqué outer
shell, which allows the body to
twist in all directions as well as
no body panel jointing, as is the
case with all other caravans
available on the market today. All
the inside panels are glued to the
outer shell, which allows all inner
components flexibility in the outer
shell.

-
A
newly designed shower unit slides
outwards to open, and has a solid
shower floor. For the first time no
mud or sand on your feet while you
shower! It also has a removable
roof which gives the user the option
of an open or closed roof while
showering.
-
The kitchen hosts several unique
designs such as a fold-out working
surface with a stainless steel table
(which is totally removable), a 2
plate gas cooker, 4 drawers and
cutlery & crockery for 6 people.
All this is mounted in a neatly
trimmed, closed all-rubber cell that
allows easy cleaning and drying.
-
All Kavango Caravans come standard
equipped with an electric 220V or
gas filled geyser with an electric
start function for supplying hot
water to the kitchen and shower from
the 120 litre water tank (Coupled to
an external pressure pump mounted
under the caravan)
-
All hatches close with a turn pull
cam lock system that pulls the doors
and hatches into the automotive door
seals.
-
The electrical panel consists of a
digital display with several handy
features such as battery life
available, voltage and current draw
rate. The built in battery charger
will charge a 70 amp deep cycle
battery at a staggering 25 amps if
necessary! All fuses are built in
and do not need replacements, as
they are automatically re-settable.
Built into the panel is a 150-WATT
inverter. With a 2 point as well as
3-point plugs. 220V is also
available, equipped with an earth
leakage switch and circuit breaker
switches.
-
The fridge is secured in a closed
compartment with access from the
caravan's inside through the top
hatch, which makes it the only
caravan with this unique layout.
The fridge can also slide outwards
on this slider. The slider which is
mounted on the left front section of
the Kavango secures enough space for
a 80 litre fridge as well as a fire
extinguisher, washing basin and
drying rack with hot and cold-water
tap.
-
Designed to sleep 4 adults the
Kavango offers various bedtime
options. 1 x Single bunk in the
nose section or 1x double bed that
folds forward into the tent to
secure a large 1400 x 1900! The
mattresses are manufactured of high
quality foam and covered with
durable upholstery material.
-
A
Mosquito net also comes standard for
the main door as well as all the
tent windows. The tent is
manufactured from UV stable PVC.
-
A
two-ton braked axle with an auto
reverse coupler is fitted on to a
8-blade heavy-duty blade spring
suspension with shock absorbers.
The leveling jacks at the rear of
the Kavango caravan are a first in
South Africa.
-
The Kavango caravan is the only
caravan on the market, which is
corrosion and wood rot resistant.
Bolts, nuts and pop rivets are used
sparingly to minimize breakage and
maintenance.
-
The neatly designed grocery box on
the outside of the Kavango is
another unique feature which allows
the camper to store easily
accessible food when preparing
meals.
-
Awnings are mounted and stored away
in the inner roof section which
gives the Kavango a neat aerodynamic
outer appearance; This feature also
protects the awnings from damage by
bush and branches. This innovation
is sure to be copied by other
caravan manufacturers.
